Strategy For Churches: Business Security

By Mark Mahaffey

You may find it hard to believe, but churches are not exempt from being the victims of crime. This means that church should have a strong business security plan in place so they can protect themselves. Of course, this will require budgeting enough money to have high quality security measures in place.

Next, it is a good idea to put in cameras. Cameras are a great way to keep an eye on many different areas of the church and the property surrounding the building. These should be place inside the building and outside - such as in parking lots and other areas where people tend to congregate.

Glass break sensors are another smart way to increase the security in a church building. Sometimes, all you need to do is scare a crook into leaving, and these types of sensors may do just that. You just put them on doors and window, and when the burglar breaks the glass, it triggers the sensor and it sounds an alarm.

Lighting is another part of a good business security plan for churches. Buy several lights and put them in key areas around the church property. For example, put them around doors, window, drive way entrances and also in the parking areas. Putting them in the front and back yards of the church is also a good idea.

Also think about using access control in your church. Even though you like to think that you can trust church members, they are not always honest. Keeping more sensitive areas off limits to everyone except the staff is a good idea. You can do this with access control.

Deadbolts are a great way to increase your business security plan in your church. Deadbolts are not fancy or high tech, but they can keep someone from breaking down your door. Buy high quality deadbolts - the thicker the metal on them the better. Install them on all exterior doors of your church. And you can also put them on interior doors if you have highly sensitive areas that you want to protect.
