Write a powerful story for your business, in six simple points

By Tiphaine Siovel

What best than an online buisiness to get out of the rat race ans start to make some money fast ? It's international and certainly is much less expensive to start than an offline one. But be wary, there is a downside to it...

Anything can be done on the internet, and that's why it is both an exciting and terrifying tool. Put yourself in your potential buyer's shoes : how can they know that you are a real person, with an honest business, and that you won't rip them off of everything they have? How can they know that they can trust you ?

First, before getting to trust your business, they will have to trust you as a person.

If people were to meet you in real life, they would be able to determine wether they would like to work with or buy from you based on their appreciation of who you are, the way you talk, move, look like. It's human nature to do so.

But what about on the internet ?

The best way to "brake the ice" on internet is to give a presentation of yourself, by writing a little story. Who you are, what you've done, what you've found and how the reader could benefit from it. It can be a very very powerful tool for your business to grow, but for the story to be effective you need to know how to write it the right way...

Here is a six step blue print for your story :

1. An introduction

The welcome message : Hi, my name is A, and I am the creator of B. Keep it simple and to the point. Cards on the table straight away, you are not hiding anything. And your position yourself as an authority, because you are the author of something.

2. Background

A casual description of who you are and what you do. Short but full of content : the more similar content people find from their own life, the more they will be ready to trust you with what follows. Also mention briefly what was your problem and that you've found a solution, you'll explain soon what it is.

3. What was life like before, or the problem

Describe what was your problem with emotion involved (True ones you had !). It could go like this : I hated doing my laudry cause I cant stand the noise of the machines, it makes me want to just live naked. (I'm sure you can find a better exemple than me ;-) Use practical exemples people can relate to and say : Hey ! He cant stand having to go do his laudry, just like me ! We are the same ! I have to talk to that guy

4. But then.... (Roll the drums...)

Again with practical facts, describe how it suddenly changed with your solution. (When I realized I you could have someone do it all for me, pick up my underwear, wash them and bring them back completely clean, it was like having my life back again, I was so thrilled)

5. Give directions on how to get there

The more specific and simple, the better. It's like explaining to them what they should do to have their laudry picked up: with a phone, dial the number gave you. Talk to the person, tell them your adress and they will come. It will do the job for you as it did for me! People like to know exactly what they will have to do.

6. WARNING

You only want to attract people that are suitable for your business, don't be affraid to loose some potential costumers, because you'll only loose the trouble maker with such a statement, and attract more interesting people. It also gives you more credit, its all about positioning. Exemple : DO NOT call the laudry service if youre not ready to have a life changing experience !!

Remember to keep your story quite short: however fascinating your own story may be to you or your friends, to the reader it will most likely just be another long step before they can get to what they want (a solution to their own problem). You don't want to bore them to death before they get to the exciting part (what you have to offer).

A plus: add pictures of you having fun. Energy passes very well through images.
